fresh start

Mixed Signals – Fresh Start uploaded by lunchboxbrain, found via kind over matter

Can you smell it? A New Year’s a-coming! 2010 is gonna be chock full of Fresh Starts for me, & they’ve become a whirlwind of “hooray!”s in my head. Once I get ‘em out on paper, I’ll share the changes you can expect to see in this blog, on my site, & in my business in general. OK, I’ll probably share some personal stuff too. You guys are so allowed to read my diary.

Tough (Question) Tuesday: How do you not fit in?

Don’t Fit In on wordboner

As the year winds down & I’m thinking of what I want 2010 to look like, I’ve become very focused on how I’m different from The Pact, & how I can express that so that it’s noticeably obvious to everyone. It’s tougher than it seems, as most of us spend our whole lives (at least our childhood) trying to not seem “weird” or “quirky” or whatever other wonderful adjective the world at large doeesn’t embrace.

So let me ask you today:

How do you not fit in? (more…)

Tough (Question) Tuesday: What are you resisting?

destiny

fortune, originally uploaded by simple effulgence , found via kind over matter

I started reading The War of Art on the subway today, & after just 33 pages I know it’ll only be a matter of time before it’s dog-eared & well-loved. The first part of the book is about resistance, & how it’s the vampire that welcomes all of our vices so that we just won’t start pursuing our dreams.

Since I’m asking it to myself, I’d love to know:

What are you resisting? (more…)

Tough (Question) Tuesday: What can you say “yes” to today?

yes

natalie by jess gonacha swift

In the past 2 years, I’ve been focusing a lot on saying “no.” As a people pleaser, saying “yes” came easily & too quickly & often got me where I didn’t want to be (or gave me agita in trying to un-yes it).  Now, “no” comes easy, & I find myself blocking out what I want to say “yes” to & convincing myself I don’t have the time, or that I have a higher priority that is more deserving of my attention. Things that are important to me are slipping away, or not getting the attention they deserve.

So, join me in answering the question:

What can you say “yes” to today? (more…)

Tough (Question) Tuesday: What can you take less seriously?

In Case Of Emergency Breakdance, originally uploaded by mooosh ♥ miso funky, found via kind over matter

This is genius, & made me think of the juxtaposition (SAT word!) between “emergency” & “breakdance”. For me, it’s “In case of emergency, freak out / yell / pick your fingers / cry / turn into Scary Spice.” But if I think of it as, “Hey! It’s an emergency – time to breakdance!” then I might actually, uh, look forward to the emergency.

I think I just blew my own mind.

So, this week’s question gotta be: (more…)

Tough (Question) Tuesday: What are you hoping for today, & are you willing to make the climb?

hope

Hope by blue bicicletta

I didn’t realize it until I saw this print, but hope IS what you climb a mountain for.  You have big dreams, & you want to make it to the top. That’s where your hope lies when you’re down on the ground.

What are you hoping for today, & are you willing to make the climb?

Join me in the comments to share/bare your soul. It’s less scary if we all do it (hint hint nudge nudge)

Lend Me Your Wing by Kelli Murray Art, found via kind over matter

My vlog yesterday was all about what-you-can’t-control-itis, & part of dealing with what you can’t control is to ask for help. Take something off your plate. Learn something from an expert.

Now think about that challenge that has you stuck. Whether it’s plain ol’ overwhelm, or thinking you’d be great in a job that you don’t really know anything about, or that you need to find space to paint…..

What can you ask for today? (more…)

Tough (Question) Tuesday: How can you accept what’s beyond your control?

storm

storm by artsyville

I’m not gonna sugarcoat it: This week sucks. We’ve been packing for weeks to move out of our rental apartment (lease is up on Saturday!), & have been going back & forth since Oct 8th as to the closing date of our new apartment. At first we thought we’d close the week of Oct 19th. Then it was the week of Nov 9th. Then it was Oct 28th. Now it’s the week of the 2nd. There’s still no date set & nothing firm in site. The bad hours make me wonder why I still have hair (haven’t I ripped it out by now?), while the good hours make me think, “I’m healthy & have someone awesome to go through this with & I’ll always have a roof over my head. Stop being a baby.”

But it boils down to this:  How can you accept what’s beyond your control?

If you’ve learned this lesson yet, please share in the comments section (please! I beg you!). If you’re facing something beyond your control, join me in trying to piece together how to accept it/not wind up bald.

Tough (Question) Tuesday: What can you trust about yourself/this situation?

trust

Trust by alannaJackson

I’ve become obsessed with the theme of trusting in myself. On the brink of major changes – ramping up my coaching business, buying a home, no longer being a newlywed – I feel acutely aware of going through my usual behavior of doing what I “should” (aka what-others-tell-me-to-do-in-order-to-”succeed”).

I’m starting to throw that all away.

Think about what you’re looking to achieve, & whether or not you’re listening to outside voices more than yourself. Now ask: (more…)

Tough (Question) Tuesday: What’s the risk you’re going to take?

risk

Take Risks by wordboner

On Thursday I’m putting up a new Grown-Up Gigs, & while I don’t want to give it away (suspense!), I read something there that was eye-opening, even in it’s simplicity.

“… that’s a common theme with all our [career transition] people. Now I’m not saying that they’re not worried or anxious about changing careers. Many of them have no choice. They’ve lost jobs. They reach dead ends. But at a certain point, they all take a risk, even if that risk is simply acknowledging that what they’ve been doing no longer works.”

So……What’s the risk you’re going to take? (more…)
