Tough (Question) Tuesday: Are you ready for the next step?

One Step by Art = Happy.

I feel it. It’s here. I can’t let it linger any longer, or turn my back, or sing “la-la-la” while I stick my fingers in my ears.

It’s a point. It’s turning. It’s a turning point, and I can’t pirouette in reverse. Nor do I want to. I keep moving forward, taking steps, making them baby so I move slow and steady and sure and smiling.

It’s not just me. It’s you, too. You know what I’m talking about. And if you don’t, at least not immediately, then close your eyes. Take a breath. Listen. (more…)

Tough (Question) Tuesday: How do you know when its your true voice talking or if it’s just those pesky Vampires?

Listen by Jess Swift, who is totally the birthday girl today. HAPPY HAPPY JESS! I’m so thankful for you.

Are these tough (questions) getting harder or is it just me? Well, I blame all the Vampire talk that happened last week along with the comments on what it takes for you to trust yourself, because it got me thinking:

How do you know when its your true voice talking or if it’s just those pesky Vampires?

Oh! And for anyone that’s new around these parts, when I talk about your Vampire I’m talking about that voice that’s in your head that sucks the good stuff right out of ya. It usually tells you that your dumb / lazy / unspecial / unimportant and you’ll never amount to anything. So not cool. (more…)

Tough (Question) Tuesday: What does your Vampire look like?

Tuesday, August 10th, 2010

Many months ago, I responded to a comment or a post or a something somewhere in the Interwebs about my Vampire. I decided then & there that his name was Vern, he was a hunchback, spoke like he’s a heavy smoker that has lived on Long Island for his whole life (probably at least 200 years), & had an abundance of ear hair. Funny thing was, when I gave my Vampire a name & these ridiculous attributes, I started seeing him in my head. When he’d try to talk to me, I’d remember what he sounded like, & would immediately (a) smile & (b) dismiss him.

Now you & I both know that I ain’t no artist, but Vern was begging to be created on the page. So, today, I drew him:

Vern the Vampire

And yes, now you have to recipriate, & you can do it by naming your Vampire & describing his/her attributes in the Comments section, or by making your own visual, posting it on your blog, & linking to the post using the widget below. Vampire Ridiculors unite!

Tough (Question) Tuesday: What will it take for you to trust yourself?

Must Believe in You by jenzet

This might be the toughest questions of all tough questions. I wouldn’t be surprised if there were 0 comments, as it would probably leave me running scared if I was a reader here. But yet…this is the point of Tough (Question) Tuesday. To dig. To inquire. To think. To realize. To articulate. To commit. All of that, wrapped up in one tiny question.

And yes, this question is coming from a personal place, as I have less than two handfuls of available appointments for the whole month of August (& it’s only the third of the month!) and yet…yet…something’s telling me to be careful of beginner’s luck, which I feel I had when it came to my short-lived real estate career. While I do feel confident that I’m doing all the “right” things & that coaching will be something that I’ll have success with throughout my career (that is, until I decide to stop working), there’s still that Vampire that’s saying, “Enjoy it while it lasts. The roller coaster has to go up to go down. Watch for the drop.”

So, be here with me & ask: (more…)

Tough (Question) Tuesday: What will you get out of your head & into your hands, literally?

Today is the day by The BIG Harumph

It was a huge a-ha moment for my client. So much so that she pronounced she was done with “research” & “preparation” & “ideas” – she was sick of ‘em, sick of working on that & only that for days, weeks, months, years at a time.

“I’m getting out of my head and into my hands, literally!”

It’s a statement that life coaches like me live for, & it’s now The Motivating Statement of All Motivating StatementsĀ  for this client to start (& continue!) putting one foot in front of the other. I made her post it where she can see it often, & might even make her tattoo it on her forehead backwards. (more…)

Tough (Question) Tuesday: What will you make room for?

Make room for your life – Postcard set by emcee

This might seem absolutely counter-intuitive to last week’s Tough (Question) Tuesday, but when you take something off of your plate, it’s because you want to make room for something else. And as a slightly hippy-dippy life coach (I’ll never be fully hippy-dippy, or at least I’ll never admit that I am if I become it), I like to think about what you’re committing to bring into your life as opposed to what you want to kick out of it. Feels happier, brighter, positive-er to me.

Today, I commit to making room for breaks – places to breathe, to explore, to think, to grow. I commit to actually putting things on my calendar so they aren’t stolen away from me, & in following through with themĀ  – not forever (scary!), but just for this week. My journal is calling me, & I’m gonna answer the phone & talk for a while.

What will you make room for? (more…)

Tough (Question) Tuesday: What can you take off your plate?

4-29-104-29-10 by beverly13

I’m feeling major overwhelm today. This week is the last week that I start the group coaching sessions for my scholarship peeps, & again I feel that excuse forming: “Once I get past this week…” which I remember saying last week, and the week before. My yoga classes have fallen by the wayside. My business building time is non-existent. I haven’t logged into Flying Lessons for over a week & now I’m scared by the sheer amount of posts that are waiting for me (Kelly Rae is certainly not skimping on the content, godblessher!). It finally hit me: I’ve committed to too much. Something’s gotta give, orr else I’ll hafta start pulling those all-nighters I prided myself on not doing in the Spring videos we taped for July (on self-care, no less!).

If you’re feeling overwhelmed or need to make time for the Priority/Priorities in your life, join me in answering:

What can you take off your plate?

I’m gonna really hafta give this some big fat thought, becauseĀ  I’m honestly at a loss. It all seems so important (especially because most of it is stuff I wanna be doing)! Join me in the comment section with your answer/some handholding, & come back tomorrow to see my Big Ole Brain Dump & how I made my decision! (more…)

Tough (Question) Tuesday: What’s your definition of success?

Success Watercolor by Stephanie Corfee

In answer to the above question: You (that’s who)!

I loved loved loved the conversation about passion that sparked from last week’s Tough (Question) Tuesday, & it made my mind wander over from the word “passion” (whether or not you believe in it, what it consists of, if it’s a loaded word, what it means to you personally) over to the word “success”, & just hafta ask:

What’s your definition of success? (more…)

Tough (Question) Tuesday: Do you believe in “passion”?

Passion Fine Art Print by Lovely Journey

Lately, a fairly large chunk of my clients, when asked what they’re passionate about, have remarked along the lines of, “There’s nothing I like doing so much I want to commit to it, and therefore I’m not passionate about anything.” I’ve so far replaced this word with two clients – one now uses “like-like” & the other uses “abundance” – to take away it’s weight, it’s heft, it’s seriousness. I’ve even gotten a few, “I don’t think there’s such a thing.” As someone who’s living my passion after living another passion, & who took great pains in finding a new passion when the old one – while still a great love of my life – faded, I’ve been fairly taken aback by these responses.

So I have to ask:

Do you believe in passion? (more…)

The wind Blows Blow back by NayArts

You have a Dream, a Goal – nay, a Mission! But no matter how hard you try to go running more than twice a month, or go to audition after audition, or try to make dinner without the smoke alarm going off, it just doesn’t happen.

It’s time to ask:

What’s getting in your way? (more…)
