I am so super excited to be part of The Next Chapter’s book blogging group for Wreck This Journal that starts today! Ever since I found the work of Keri Smith, I’ve been wanting to jump in with both hands and make a mess, gain a new perspective, & create. Something always held me back though because, well, I ain’t no artist! Even my stick figures aren’t so, uh, sticky. It was a great excuse to keep my hands clean & not make a mess.
But then my virtual buddy Jamie Ridler announced that Wreck This Journal would be the next book in The Next Chapter series, & the one & only word that popped into my mind was: “Yes”. The extrovert in me loves the virtual support I’ll receive in joining a group of almost 150 bloggers (& counting!) that will withhold their judgment on my scribbles and my stick figures and my messes (right, guys?) .
There’s something just so freeing about taking a nice new book & being forced to crap all over it. If you wanna get dirty with us, there’s still time! I still haven’t started yet! Thinking of doing the coffee & shower parts tomorrow, but also thinking I’ll really stomp the organizer in me & open it to any page & start there! So many options. Happy sigh.

That sounds like fun! I heard a great interview with Keri Smith by Kimberly Wilson on Hip Tranquil Chick. She is such an interesting person. Well, they both are!!

Caitlin – Thanks so much for that link! I absolutely can’t get enough of Keri Smith, although it seems like any time I read an interview of hers I get blown away by her intelligence. She’s so scientific for an artist. Can’t wait to read this one!
Carolyn – I’m so glad you’re joining too, as I know that you’re a fellow bad stick figure drawerer! I love that we can support each other on this.

Amen, Sherri & KnittingJourneyman! I started wrecking yesterday & it got a bit out of control (there is now coffee on about 6 pages of my book & all along the spine), but I didn’t care. I realized that my Wreck This Journal mantra is, “The messier, the better!”

I hear ya about the out of control bit. Yesterday, I did a spit take on the book with my coffee, just because. I mean we are supposed to be wrecking this thing right? I’m showering with the journal tonight. This will definitely be a new experience for me

I’m jealous of your firecrackers, WRO! I burned one of my pages yesterday and that was fun. A firecracker would bring them up to a 10!

I just put this on my amazon wish list–hopefully someone will get it for me for Christmas so I can WRECK it too!! And I love the idea of doing it through a book club.
