Spreading my wings in 2009 (”Fly…fly…fly high against the sk”-Sorry)
I couldn’t find any good pics for “wings”, or “fly”, and then I thought of “trapeze” (what? it has to do with flying!) and then I thought of my 101 Things in 1001 Days list (#32 specifically) & now I’m scared. But great pic, huh?
In 2008, I continued classes for my life coach certification, started my coaching practice, got engaged, and got married. 2009 is when I get to spread my wings as a certified life coach and a wife. I think it’s also going to be the year where I grow most as an adult. I don’t mean that in a boring, have-to-go-right-home-after-work-to-watch-60-Minutes-and-eat-fiber sort of way, but in an I-know-what-my-values,-goals,-and-priorities-are-and-I’m-going-to-make-the-decisions-that-will-be-in-alignment-with-them sort of way. I want to gain both focus and discipline, whether it’s saying “no” to a social event because I should write my research paper instead or logging off of Gmail while I post a new blog entry so I don’t get distracted. I want to balance that focus and discipline with fun, though, too. Y’know, easy stuff!
Thanks so much for taking this journey with me this year. I’m looking forward to building both this blog and When I Grow Up next year & hope you’ll stick around. You have no idea how excited I get when a comment approval comes up in my Inbox!
I hope that all of you enjoy the last day of 2008 and have a safe, fun, freakin’ fantastic New Years Eve. I look forward to hearing about all of your challenges & wins (!) in 2009. Feel free to post how you want to spread your wings in 2009 in the comments section of this post. But if you’re too hungover to, I’d understand.
Best, Michelle

Happy New Year! I’ve been thinking about my mantra, or theme for 2009. I’ll be spreading my wings by choosing a mantra (I’ve never done this before) and living by it for one year (I reserve the right to change mantras mid-year if I discover a more powerful one). Well here it is for 2009: IMPLEMENT aka “Do it now” or “Today is Someday” I have so many ideas about things I want to do “someday” so many ebooks and workbooks and online exercises I’ve downloaded. They’re all sitting idle on my computer, on the bookshelf, in a file drawer. So, one by one, I’m either going to implement or discard all this stuff. I love to collect information (not that there’s anything wrong with that) but it’s time to do something with all that information. So I’m going to be one busy (but productive) coach/speaker/mentor this year.

Love the mantra idea! What a great way to keep your values/priorities at the forefront of your mind, Joanne.
Just make sure that you don’t bombard yourself with things you feel you “should” do just because, well, they’re in a book waiting for you to implement. I started my “Brilliant Ideas” journal from brainstorming with you about the projects I had on my To Do list that didn’t get done within 30 days. I put them all in my Brilliant Ideas journal and have honestly not felt the need to implement any of them. Sometimes Brilliant Ideas are destined to be that – Brilliant Ideas!
That said, I applaud you for doing something with all the info you’ve accumulated! I’m looking forward to seeing the results in 2009. Happy New Year, Joanne!

Yes, I realize there will be many more things to Implement than I have time to do. That’s why I included “discard” as my other choice. And here’s one more option: defer — that would by my equivalent of a Brilliant Ideas Journal. Actually I have a Brilliant Ideas notebook already, so a deferred idea just lives there until I am ready to implement it. But after a time, it becomes clear to me that I will never implement some ideas; these then get discarded to make room for “better” ideas. I am sure I will go to my grave with yet-to-be-implemented tasks but that’s the idea. I’ll never be bored! I think I will surprise myself by how much I actually get done (as opposed to thinking about getting it done).

You are awesome, Joanne.
That is all.
