Six Things that Make Me Happy
It’s Shut Off Your Brain day today (that should be an official holiday). With 8 whole people in my office, a drizzly cold mist over NYC and me stuck in at work to support people who aren’t here, I was just going to skip the post this week and wish everyone a Happy Channakwanzakkuh and be back with Freaking (Great Links) Friday.
Then I came across this post and wanted to indulge myself by joining in, too. It’s hard to limit myself to just Six Things that Make Me Happy, but here they are:
1. Snuggling on the couch with my babeh
No, he usually doesn’t come with a robe and a teaset (nor is he usually in a cabin in a rainforest) but that doesn’t matter to me. Lying down on the couch and watching TV or a movie with Luke is one of the things I do that make me happiest. Add some popcorn and wine and I’d never leave the house.
2. A bubble bath, complete with a great novel/fashion magazine and a good glass of wine (Rubby Ducky not entirely necesary)
I can stay here for hours. Add some quiet jazzy-like tunes and I may just take a nap.
3. Seeing a show with my Mom
A meal and a show always makes for a special day with my Mom. On Sunday we’re seeing Pal Joey on Broadway and I think she has something up her sleeve for my birthday on 1/14, if I let her. We’ve been to hundreds of shows together but each one is special.
4. Grilled cheese with tomato on rye bread
Yes, I love a good lobster, but give me grilled cheese with tomato on rye – I’m not fancy, I’m from Strong Island. Throw in some sweet potato fries and I might die from happiness.
5. The Boiler Room Episode on My So-Called Life
My favorite episode on any TV series ever. Ask any woman in their late 20s-mid 30s about Jordan Catalano and listen to all the collective sighs.
I kept this on my DVR until we had to turn it in, since it guaranteed me milk-coming-out-of-my-nose laughs at every viewing, even when a viewing turned into dozens of viewings. I still think the censored version is funnier – you can view it here.
This Christmas Eve, think about Six Things that Make Your Happy and make sure you have time for them before the New Year. Or make sure they’re included in your plans for ‘09. Or leave me a comment and share them. Or write your own list on your own blog. Really, there are multiple things for you to do with this list.
Enjoy your holidays this week!

OMG Jordan Catalano! You brought back so many memories. By husband used to laugh at me for being so addicted to the show… and laughed more when I cried along.
Things that make me happy:
~ Polite kids
~ kismet – when you meet the right person at the right time and you know it was meant to be.
~ comfort food
~ watching my kids enjoy books, movies, theme parks, life, etc
~ tech toys – the geek in me

Thanks for sharing, Allison! So glad I could give you a Jordan Catalano flashback. He always “did it” for me WAY more than Mr Big ever could…..
Kismet! Oh, what a great thing to love. I definitely feel that without kismet relationships won’t work. Without timing, it’s tough to be on the same page and want the same thing!
I also love that “polite kids” are on your list. Luke and I often talk about kids that are a**holes, and how to deal with our imaginary kids if they’re starting to turn into an a**hole. No a**hole kids!

you’ll have to check out A Few Of My Favorite Things at http://casanovashrugged.blogspot.com to see my list. Not sure if your readership would really appreciate it here… Merry Christmas to you and yours…

Yup, your list is just *slightly* different from mine, Rene, but still worthwhile none the less. So, no Jordan Catalano for you then?
Enjoy Christmas as well – however you want to celebrate it…..
