Also loooooove hearing that you're turning away work, doing what you love, and working with other right-brainers who are also killing it with a skillet! If you're interested at all in writing a guest post about your experiences/thoughts behind The Recession is Bullhonkey, I'd love to publish it!

"(I) am finding that anything really is possible now." It's SO TRUE! Thanks for articulating it as such, Janelle. It's all about seeing the opportunities in this time of economy, because they're there for the taking!

Thank you for this! I "quit my day job" to follow my heart two years ago & had to listen to an army of naysayers telling me it was foolish to leave a secure job to start up a business in this recession.
Today, I'm turning away work right & left and am on track to make WAY more money than I ever thought possible. All while getting to work with amazing clients & doing what I love. Also, many of my clients (who are mostly artists, designers & other creatives) are also doing very well, despite the economy.
It's almost as if, just by following our bliss, we are all ignoring the recession and thriving because of it. In fact, I can't think of a BETTER time to test out your dreams than when you are unemployed (or facing the possibility). The risks are reduced and the upside is huge. Thanks so much for pointing that out!

Michelle, I totally love this post and am really looking forward to more in this series. I agree with a lot of what Lesley says, and have totally learned a lot about myself and my dreams during this "recession." I have always had big goals for myself, but am finding that anything really is possible now. It's so nice to see that people are carving out their own futures and being whatever they want to be and not giving up hope. It's so refreshing and inspiring. I'm looking forward to using all the changes that are going on in the world right now to my advantage and take big steps towards making big things happen! Keep the good stuff coming!

"I see the R word as an opportunity for creative people and a playing field leveler, a realize-what's-important-and-go-for-it phenomenon." Yes yes yes! I really hope to help share that perspective for us creatives with this series. Glad to see it's helping you already, Lesley!

Me too, Patti! I gotta tell ya I was sweating bullets with this one, even making my husband read it and give me feedback. I think it boils down to respecting the fact that yes, we're in a recession and it's real and times are tough...but it's not an excuse to use to stay where you don't wanna be/not move forward.

I'm so glad you posted this. I have found myself saying things extremely similar to this just recently! And I've been thinking it for longer. I know everyone comes from different backgrounds and has different extenuating circumstances, etc. but I am all about the excitement that we have the power to shape our futures here. I've never been a flag-waving super-patriotic person but I am so grateful to wake up in the morning knowing I can make choices about what I do, where I go, and who I become. I hate it when the 'R' word becomes the go-to excuse for everything. I see the R word as an opportunity for creative people and a playing field leveler, a realize-what's-important-and-go-for-it phenomenon. It gets people to rethink their jobs and what they want and their lives and their purposes! And for our generation (gen Y, millennials, whatever we're called), since we are new to the 'career' scene anyway and are so used to expecting constant change, we're ready to dive in and kind of carve our own paths anyway!

I think there is truth in both points of view. I want to focus on the positive and try to be supportive to people who are struggling.
