Tough (Question) Tuesday: How do you know when its your true voice talking or if it’s just those pesky Vampires?

Listen by Jess Swift, who is totally the birthday girl today. HAPPY HAPPY JESS! I’m so thankful for you.

Are these tough (questions) getting harder or is it just me? Well, I blame all the Vampire talk that happened last week along with the comments on what it takes for you to trust yourself, because it got me thinking:

How do you know when its your true voice talking or if it’s just those pesky Vampires?

Oh! And for anyone that’s new around these parts, when I talk about your Vampire I’m talking about that voice that’s in your head that sucks the good stuff right out of ya. It usually tells you that your dumb / lazy / unspecial / unimportant and you’ll never amount to anything. So not cool.

I’ll start off the comments with my answer to this question unless someone beats me to it (hint hint nudge nudge)!

Oh I didn't want to go first. Oh well, I'll start. I'm not sure how we know when it's our vampires/gremlins/monsters, but I think it has to do something with how we feel about ourselves over all. If I'm coming from a strong place and deciding that something isn't working right, I automatically start looking for solutions, or for what I will try next time. I'm critiquing my work from a place of positivity. If it's my vampires speaking, the negativity kind of bleeds into everything about myself. Not only is this painting not working, but I'm never going to make it selling my stuff, I can't be a success in business, my work overall is childish and cheesy, and I am just wasting my time trying to be a writer and artist and I should just go back to teaching and provide for my kids.

Healthy place? The self talk is, "what step can I take next."

Midnight in the Garden of Mean and Nasty? The self talk is "give it up you're not good enough."

That said, I think lately I've been hanging out in graveyards. Metaphorically. Real graveyards would probably be soothing and peaceful.

Ah, Rowena, you got to the computer before me! You're a brave one. And how I love your insight – that you come from a place of positivity and the vampires are all about the negative. Get out of that graveyard and into your positive place pronto!

As for me, I know that I'm talking from my gut/instincts/heart when something is both scary and exciting. That's when I know I'm on track and moving towards what the best move/decision/place is for me. The Vampires definitely make up that fear, but without them, I know that there's nothing at stake (pun!). I think I almost see them as a sign that I'm doing something right, as they wouldn't nearly be as loud or pissy if I was heading in the wrong direction or not making great strides. Ooh, I almost want to invite the Vampires in now, because seeing/hearing them is a sign that I'm making it happen!

I think it's a matter of feeling when something feels right and when something feels like it's bogged down in fear.

I also think that practice makes perfect in this one. Trusting those little nagging voices and really getting in touch with your intuition takes work to become a habit, but the more you know the difference between those voices, the easier it is to quiet those vampires and celebrate your intuition.

I know it's the Vampire talking if it is fraught with fear, panic, dread, self-bashing, etc.

My True Self is much more calm and rational, and filled with love. Thoughts that come from my real inner guidance can be answered with a quiet "yes."

  5. Michelle Says:

@Tiffany – So you're suggesting to let the Vampires in so you can get used to their voice/tone & learn when they're talking to you? Love it! I wonder if it's worth recognizing what your gut says & how it sounds, too? Hmmmm…

@Juliana – I think it's universal that the real inner guidance is a quiet voice, one that we all hafta listen to really, really closely to hear. It's interesting because, in acting class, I was taught that "the one with the power doesn't have to raise his/her voice", & it's totally stuck with me. The one without the power has to scream & yell & carry on to make himself/herself feel like he/she is powerful and/or intimidate the others. Hmmmmmmm again…..
