In 2006 I got married, we went to North Carolina then drove to Savannah, GA and back again for our honeymoon. Then, we bought a house and moved in by August! I was involved with a service club that held an exchange program, and in the summer some exchange students came to Canada and kids from Canada were sent overseas. I was terribly disappointed that I wasn't chosen to go on an exchange, but since I had been part of the program initially I was part of the "welcoming committee" for the exchange students coming to our city. Although our house wasn't large enough to accomodate someone staying with us all summer, I hung out with a couple of girls from Japan almost every day. They wanted to learn to speak English, and I loved learning about Japan. They taught me to fold origami - cranes, cups, boxes, and told me all about Japan. I am kind of glad I didn't get to go on the exchange that year, I might not have developed my keen interest in Asia where much of my work takes me now!
