Client Show & Tell: What Are Your Favorite Summer Memories? / Scrapbook Giveaway & Discount from Tara Sroka!

Summer Quote

I’m on vacation this week & early next, & my clients are taking over! Come back every weekday for Client Show & Tell. Today it’s scrapbooker, designer & all around sweet lady Tara Sroka’s turn!

My name is Tara Sroka and I’m thrilled to be guest blogging here while Michelle is on vacation. I am a scrapbook artist who helps people document and preserve their life’s most precious moments to tell their stories, to remember days gone by and to document all their moments big, small and in between.

Since Michelle is on vacation that got me thinking about summertime memories and making sure I take the time to document them. Summer is a fresh start more or less with more time for leisure and kicking back. With warmer weather and longer days gives us more time to get outside, more time to play with friends, extra time to hang out with family and more time to travel. These are the moments that make up our lives, that tell our story and they should be recorded to remember for years to come.

The summer is great because the lack of schedule can be a blessing especially if you are a kid. Many of my favorite summer memories are from childhood when summer meant no school, which meant no worries or stress. Summertime is all about being carefree when you are a kid, which somehow disappears when you get older.

Some of my memories of summer that flood my mind are:

  • enjoying time with my grandparents
  • riding bikes in Pennsylvania
  • sitting on my stoop in Brooklyn with friends
  • playing mini golf and tennis
  • renting a cottage in The Hamptons for a weekend
  • swimming in the ocean and boating with family
  • taking fun trips to various places, especially Chicago with my husband

Whether it’s a special summer vacation or just one unique moment in time that stands out in your mind as memorable it’s worth recording it, documenting and sharing with others. You don’t have to scrapbook per say to record your special events. Keeping an up-to-date photo album labeled with names, dates and some information about the memory will work just fine as well. The point is to document it somehow to reference at a later point in time. Just a note – do not write on the back of photographs, as they will ruin your image over time. I suggest getting photo albums that have extra room in the margins for keeping notes.

Sir Scrapalot Designs recently compiled a great list of resources on how to document your summer. Check it out for some ideas to get you started.

So, what are some of your favorite summer memories? Share a special moment from summertime in the comments section by July 24th at 12p Eastern and be entered to win a custom designed scrapbook layout from me of that memory. You can also pick a different topic/theme or other special milestone as well. And if you like how that comes out feel free to do a whole book!

My favorite summertime memory is from when I was in junior high school. I was involved with a service club that held an exchange program, and in the summer some exchange students came to Canada and kids from Canada were sent overseas. I was terribly disappointed that I wasn't chosen to go on an exchange, but since I had been part of the program initially I was part of the "welcoming committee" for the exchange students coming to our city.
Although our house wasn't large enough to accomodate someone staying with us all summer, I hung out with a couple of girls from Japan almost every day. They wanted to learn to speak English, and I loved learning about Japan. They taught me to fold origami – cranes, cups, boxes, and told me all about Japan. I am kind of glad I didn't get to go on the exchange that year, I might not have developed my keen interest in Asia where much of my work takes me now!

My best summertime came as an adult!

In 2006 I got married, we went to North Carolina then drove to Savannah, GA and back again for our honeymoon. Then, we bought a house and moved in by August!

It was a whirlwind summer and it was amazing. Er, AMAZEBalls!
