hanging out with my beastly dog (he doesn't know what a funk is---he just wants to go for a walk or sit in the sun)

cooking

dancing (try to put on Billie Jean by Michael Jackson and not want to dance)

writing about it

going for a walk and really taking the time to look at things

reading a good fiction book or a well-made happy ending movie (Good Will Hunting perhaps?)

A good laugh

@Diana - Timers are my secret weapon, too! They really help me Just Start, & I only give myself 45 minutes on it. I feel like I can do anything for 45 min & it won't be too torturous. And wine goes well with everything! :)

@Nailah - Let's kick that funk's ass! Mine is gone, & I hope that yours is leaving. Running has been mentioned a few times...I'm gonna put that on my To Try list!

Ack! I've been going through a terrible funk myself this week so this is helpful for me to think about.

Running is really helpful for me
Reading
Writing out my thoughts
Realizing that it's not as bad as I think it is
Talking it out with my fiance or a good friend
Watching something silly/funny on tv
A good glass of red wine ;)

This first one is like a choose your own adventure...
A glass of red wine with a) a good book or b) bellydancing all over the house or c) cooking a fab meal
Weeding in the garden
Laying on the grass in the yard
Giving myself the afternoon off, or if I'm too busy for that I will at least switch gears - stop working on photography stuff and clean the living room or something.

Setting a timer so that forcing myself to do something seems less epic of a task. I can handle 10 minutes of accounting, but without that time limit thinking about doing the accounting is miserable. Most of my funks are because I feel overwhelmed.

MUSIC - always the first thing I try. And apparently the last thing I list. Hm.

Alisha, I can hear your daughter now! So sweet. Yup, that's a great reason to keep a kid handy :)

@Alexandra: A++++++++!

@Olive & Hope: Isn't it amazing that it really just boils down to being nice to yourself? That's really the name of the game. And can I say how much I love your list? Because I do. I love it.

@Mrs, Mediocrity: Hope that you don't do all that at once :) Seriously, it's fantastic that you know tying up your laces & hitting the road/treadmill is the way to kick that funk in the rear.

Tickling my 7 month-old daughter so I can hear her cackle.

A glass of wine.

A very long, very hot shower.

Texting a good friend.

Journaling.

An inspirational quote.

Writing my affirmations over and over again.

Depends on the funk, but:

Reading design blogs

Reading shelter mags

Emersing myself in a tv show on Netflix streaming and not coming out until my eyes are red (ahem, Mad Men, Dead Like Me, Gilmore Girls)

Baking. Or eating things that have been baked, like red velvet cupcakes.

Crying to Ryan who makes it better

Call my mom.

Plan something fun or exciting that is unrelated to the funk

Talk to my girlfriends - whoever I can get on the phone, but they are my cheerleaders (even though most of them don't understand what a blog is)

Organize and de-clutter. Closets, emotions.

Shopping. I'm a regular at retail therapy. Unless my funk is about finances. Unless I go anyway and score a killer deal. If not, could make it worse. It's a gamble.

Starbucks.

I actually have done several posts about this myself recently. For me, running is hands down the best way. Wine helps too. Reading and watching movies (escapism).

turning on the music and having a dance party for one...or more.

just turning on music sometimes does the trick.

having a good cry.

practicing non judgement and just being where I'm at. not good or bad - it just is in this moment. without the judgement it's easier for it to pass through without taking up residence.

snuggling up with my husband.

reaching out to a friend(s) - isolating does not help me.

getting outside.

walking on the beach.

gratitude lists.

journaling.

playing with my dog.

painting and getting messy with it.

wearing stripey socks.

giving myself permission to get cozy and watch a movie even though there are 100 other things I should be doing.

now that I mention that....giving myself permission to do anything that my intuition tells me I need. She is always right ;)
