Noticing the Tightrope

The Spaces in Between by Kecky
My husband came home Thursday night, a few minutes after I wrote this post, & despite the late hour we sat on the couch & talked & listened. I told him why I’ve been feeling heavy lately, laying my fears out on the table & allowing myself to cry & be held. He said everything in the husband handbook very sweetly & securely:
“I believe in you.”
“This is where you belong.”
“You’re so, so good at this. It’s not a fluke.”
“We’ll be OK.”
“I’m behind you. That’s what she said.”
And they were all comforting, sweet words that made me feel almost invincible. But then he said something I’ve never heard before, that made me smile & allow the trust to sit into my heart:
“Babe, you seem to walk a tightrope every day. And sometimes, you stop yourself & look down & say, ‘Holy crapballs! I’m walking on a tightrope!” And sometimes it scares you & you stop walking for a bit, but you’re the only person I’ve known who has always, always, always started walking the tightrope again. Today’s just a day that you’re noticing the tightrope & how scary it is. And tomorrow, I know you’ll start walking again.”
I’m the smartest woman for marrying this man.

I have an equally amazing man, and I just love it when I hear stories like this. I love it when people love.

He's a keeper!
And so are you, beautiful. You can do this!

How lucky you are to have married such a man!

This is so touching, and true! Both of you are so lucky to have one another!

Oh my goodness that is so sweet and wonderful!! He is wonderful but you are courageous for walking that tightrope in the first place!! : )

Thanks ladies! I just thought it was such a genius analogy, even though I'm totally biased

BLEEECCH shimmer-pow! That was the sound of me vomiting a rainbow. Which is the highest compliment I can bestow.
I heart love!

Vomiting rainbows is pretty apropos, since we make people vomit quite often with our cuteness. Did you know we refer to ourselves as Team Awesome? We often say that if we weren't us, we'd hate us.

100% what melanirae said. It's funny to me (funny-odd, not funny-ha-ha) that people will whinge and moan about their partners and that seems to make up 95% of what we hear about being in relationships or married…when you know there are more stories like this out there–people supporting, loving, believing in each other.
Thanks, yet again, for telling YOUR story.

Yes, I'm so with you Angelique! No wonder marriage gets a bum rep. Sigh. Well, I'll continue to show the sweet side, because I have a feeling it's just not going anywhere.

Ha. That's what she said.
He is your perfect match!
Keep it up with the website and your biz- you know the things you want the most are always the hardest things. (that's what she said.)

Go Team Awesome!
True story: once I went to Disneyland with two super-friends, and we wore matching white + red crushed-velvet tracksuits. A man asked if we were on an ice skating team. And we said, "no … we're just a Team of Awesome People!!!" Haha.
April 19th, 2010 at 1:38 pm
I think that is the nicest thing ever and how awesome it must feel to have someone that not only GETS you but loves you and can set something to words so brilliantly.
Important question of the day: Does he have a brother?
April 19th, 2010 at 2:29 pm
@Alexandra – Is having matching white & red crushed velvet tracksuit part of the Team Awesome requirement? We're on it!
@Cass – Yes. He's 28 & lives in Niagara Falls. He's a singer/songwriter & is the cutest. See? Although that video's 5 years old. He's still a singer/songwriter & is cute. Let me know if you want me to play matchmaker!

That is the sweetest thing! What a wonderful hubby. Keep on taking those steps forward, girl! You're doing an awesome job!
April 20th, 2010 at 2:25 am
Thanks so much, Jen! That means the world coming from you!
April 20th, 2010 at 11:11 pm
Wonderful, wonderful, WONDERFUL! Thank God for people in our lives who can hold our arms up when we don't know if we can.
Focus on that spot right in front of you… yes THAT one, keep moving, and whatever you do, don't look down. There is no "down." ;o)
April 21st, 2010 at 3:48 am
You're so right, Nicole – there is no down! OK, maybe there is, but I'm choosing to think it's about 2 feet above the ground. That's way less scary.

"Holy crapballs" made me laugh. I'm mature like that.
Anyway, your husband sounds like a real gem! What an awesome guy, to be so encouraging.
April 22nd, 2010 at 3:14 am
I say "crapballs" all the time. Us "immature" adults have to stick together!
And yes, my hubby is awesome. I think I'm gonna keep him around for, oh, another 60 years or so
