Flying Girl Pushes Her Way Through, or Trust Your Instinct by rowenamurillo

Think of that big decision you’ve been trying to make lately.   Maybe you want to pick up a pen and write some poetry, but it hasn’t happened yet. Maybe you want to take that improv class, but you think you might fall on your face. Maybe you want to leave your job to be a full-time artist, but you hang on to the stability. Now push your feelings aside – the ones that tell you what you should be doing – and listen:

What is your gut telling you to do?

Join me in the comments for some gut talk! And thanks to @tweric for emailing me about this interesting topic & getting the ball rolling.

I think my brain is telling me to "Be safe. Be smart." My gut is telling me to, "Jump! Leap! Do it!"

This isn't to say that I'm just gonna listen to my gut & quit my day job at this moment in time, but I'm gonna listen to it's courage & it's need to move forward, especially when the main thing my brain is saying is, "I'm scared." I have a feeling that in a few month's time that's the biggest message it'll give me, and I'll throw my gut in it's face.

    Ew.

at this very minute my gut's telling me to eat a big lunch and take a nice break. i'm tired today and even though i'm trying to fight it, i think it's a day for putting in an elmo video and letting the kiddo be ignored a bit while mommy rests. : )

Yay for Elmo! That voice is annoying, but boy is it good to shut the kids up :)

I'm starting to listen to my gut to tell me to "stop", too. Some things I do (like check my Google Reader) can take hours and suck me in. When I find myself skimming posts & wanting to flee – although my brain is saying, "Read all 852 of these posts now!" – I'm now listening. So far, the world hasn't ended.

When I read this post my mouth went dry. An absolute sign "You are not doing the right thing for You".

What do we get from these habits that stop us from doing what we really should be doing? They do not even bring us relaxation because we know it's going on. Staying in the same place offers familiarity, though not necessarily comfort…I feel downright uncomfortable!

How many blogs have to converge before I truly listen to what the universe is telling me? :)

Time to go in the direction of my gut…It is facing forward after all…

Thanks for the thought provoking post(s).

    Andrea

This question was challenging for me, because I honestly have no idea what my gut is telling me right now. I'm feeling a bit lost and frustrated right now with the state of my life, but at this point, I don't see any concrete decisions to be made–by my gut or otherwise! I am enjoying reading the Renaissance Souls book, so maybe that will help me get some more inspiration. I'm also thinking of rereading/reading parts for the first time of The Artist's Way. I'm just all over the place right now!

  6. admin Says:

Wow, Andrea – thanks so much for your personal, honest post. I'm so glad that this question allowed you to really, truly look at your gut & what it's been saying to you. I hope you don't beat yourself up for taking a while to listen to it – it took me at least a year to listen to the voice that was telling me that acting wasn't my path any more! Scary, confusing stuff. Just take your time & I know that whatever direction you go in will be the right one.

Don't force it, Caitlin – it will come! Keep exploring, keep learning, keep observing & start/keep journaling…I find those things key when I'm looking to find a new path.

Especially since reading"A New Earth" by Eckhart Tolle, I have been marvelling at the human dynamic: the flux of feelings, the constant thoughts, and the mystery of soul. Not to mention moods, energy levels, health!

I have a good friend who is close to Mallika Chopra, Deepak Chopra's daughter. Mallika just started Intent.com. Intent is more or less a spiritual social networking site and a good place to visit to inspiration of all sorts, including how to recognize what your inner self is telling you.

Michelle — thanks for pointing to me as inspiration…that makes my gut feel good! FYI – my page on intent.com: http://ow.ly/dmCP

I haven't read any Eckhart Tolle, Eric. I'm surprised that they gave me my life coaching certificate anyway!

Thanks for introducing me to intent.com. Love the idea, & love your page. Noticing your thoughts & feelings is so key in discovering where you are presently & where you want to go. It's hard for me to see it without the help of a coach or writing in my journal/blog, but everyone has different ways of going about this. I like the idea that you're putting your intent out there – that's a great way to reaffirm what you're doing & hold yourself accountable for it!
