Tough (Question) Tuesday: What do I definitely not want any more of?
As the New Year approaches, I can’t help thinking not about resolutions, but of change. What do I want more of in my life? What do I want less of? I’ve struggled my whole life with saying “No”, but as I’ve gotten older and my goals in life have become more focused – and seemingly more important to reach – I know I need to cut the fat, so to say.
Think of all of the commitments you have for 2009 already lined up. Some might be firm (doing a show, completing a certification course that you’ve signed up for), some might be soft* (waking up to get in a run before work, taking a trip to visit family). Think of them in your head, or write a list. Now ask yourself:
What do I definitely not want any more of?
I implore you, though: don’t think. Go through that list and immediately, unhesitatingly, cross off what is whispering to you “No” or “Should”. Circle what is whispering to you “Yes” and “Want”. Those cross offs or circles are not committments to drop one thing or pick up the pace on something else – just food for thought. It’s up to you what you want to do with these thoughts/food.
As always, I’ll start the comments with my answer. Join me for the last Tough (Question) Tuesday of 2008! You can find the other installments of Tough (Question) Tuesday here.

I'm going to practice what I preach and start with my 2009 commitments both hard & soft (that's still what she said):
* get all ICA certification requirements in by the end of April
* continue my day job
* be half a domestic goddess (to split the domestic duties with the domestic god I'm married to)
* perform in a show w/rehearsals starting late Jan & show closing early March (soft commitment – haven't been cast yet but think I have a good shot. I think.)
* continue with my coaching clients (3 clients until mid-Jan, 2 until mid-Feb)
* attend my Dad's wedding in mid-January
* start running & doing yoga &/or boxing again
* eat healthier
* continue getting my financials in order
* continue writing this blog
See, my problem is that I want to do it all! I know the things I immediately say "No" (just a lil' bit) to are the domestic stuff, and the exercise stuff, and the eating stuff. I wouldn't cross those out I guess, but instead reassess what I want to do against what I think I should do. I think I SHOULD eliminate most of the desserts I eat (damn holidays and chocolate in the office and all over the rest of the place!), and SHOULD run 2-3 times a week & do yoga 1-2 times a week. But I WANT to not be anal about what I eat (although I want to eat healthier, so maybe I can do the chocolate but just not every day) and I WANT to exercise just 2-3 times/wk total. I can live with that. That's balance.

What I truly want more of in my life is financial freedom. I don't know what I'll do to achieve that (seeing as how I'm currently looking for work & my husband's print media job is dangerously close to collapsing), but I'm working on it. Oh, and more shows, too! After a strong run with Into the Woods in Nov. (Baker's Wife), I'm feeling more confident in my abilities. Yay me!

Can I suggest reading my posts about SMARTY goals?: http://is.gd/cXPg That might help you figure out how you'll get to be financially free in a more concrete way.
And ditto on the Yay for your shows! I LOVE "Into the Woods" but have only been in it as Snow White (basically, a walk-on part at the end of the show) – the Baker's Wife is a fab part. Keep at it! I can tell 2009 will be a great year for you.
